County Durham Primary Care Trust (known as NHS County Durham) was launched on 1 October 2006 and serves a population of around 497,000. The new organisation replaces the five previous primary care trusts serving County Durham. Our role is to:

  • engage with local people to improve health and well-being, and reduce health inequalities
  • ensure that patients have access to and choice of a range of high quality health services by commissioning services, within allocated resources
  • directly provide high quality responsive and efficient services where this gives best value.

Good news - you choose campaign

NHS Darlington is responsible for the three community hospitals across County Durham.  We have responsibility for ensuring that relevant elective patients are screened on admission to the community hospitals.  This process commenced on 1 February 2009.  For further information on MRSA please refer to NHS County Durham and NHS Darlington MRSA Policy.
